A True “Highland Parker”

May 30, 2009

Wedding Photo for Connie’s Daughter

I read your request for stories about the neighborhood and thought that my daughter’s life story read like a true “Highland Parker“. She was born at Highland Hospital and grew up on Mulberry Street. She and her husband were married at the German House (the judge signed their license at the Keg), and they had their wedding pictures taken at Mt. Hope Cemetery. They have since moved into a house on Linden Street, and their first child was born at Highland Hospital. And so the cycle starts again

Other memories …

  • Winning a bicycle in a drawing at Lauterbach’s during the 70’s when I was in my 20’s.
  • Buying meat and cheese from a big wheel on the counter from a shop on Caroline Street.
  • Trying to keep School #24 open.
  • When I was a child, there was a man who still picked up trash by horse and cart. He kept the horse on S. Clinton Ave.
  • Pickle’s Pharmacy
